Building Inspection Department

Pine City requires building permits on just about any project whether it is a remodel or new construction. If you have questions please do not hesitate to call Rum River Construction Consultants at 763-331-7722 to verify if a permit is needed or not. 

Summary on Applying for Building Permits

Permits Requiring Plan Review

Permits that fall into this category include but are not limited to all commercial projects, new construction, remodeling, additions, & decks just to name a few.

  • Submit Application – Click here for permit applications
  • Application Intake Review – Can be delivered to city hall or emailed directly to permits@rumrivercc.com
  • Plan Review – Building Official reviews plan for compliance.
  • Applicant Notification – Applicant is notified that plan review is complete & required fees. Fees can be paid in person at city hall or over the phone.
  • Permit Activation – Only after payment is made does a permit become active. All related documents are given to the applicant in person or via email detailing the required inspections.
  • Inspections – It is the applicants responsibility to call for the required inspection per the inspection record. After each inspection the applicant is sent a copy of the inspection record.
  • Permit Closing – Once all inspections are complete the permit is considered closed.

 

Permits Not Requiring Plan Review

Permits that fall into this category include but are not limited to residential roofs, siding, & window/door replacement just to name a few.

  • Applicant Notification – Applicant is notified that plan review is complete & required fees. Fees can be paid in person at city hall or over the phone.

*Please note that permits not requiring plan review have set fees associated with them so often times they are referred to as “over the counter permits”. With that said if they are processed in person at city hall one can achieve all the required steps in one visit and walk out with an active permit. This can happen by submitting via email but may take slightly longer as things are processed within the general inbox in the order in which they are received.

 

 Zoning Permits 

  • Zoning Permit Applications (application below) [for accessory building (shed/garage) 200 sf or less, fences 7ft high or less, driveways/concrete, decks & platforms (not more than 30 inches above grade, not attached to a structure with frost footings and not part of an accessible route) and pools spas (prefab pools installed entirely above ground) etc.]

 

The Building Official reviews and processes building permit applications, performs on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction and ensures that all construction activity is in compliance with state and city building and fire codes. Fees are assessed for work by the fee schedule adopted by the City of Pine City, in addition to a state surcharge fee in accordance with Minnesota Statute 16B.70. 

The City of Pine City has adopted and enforces the Minnesota State Building Code, as adopted by the Commission of Administration pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Ch.16B.59 to 16B.75renumbered to 326B.101 to 194, including all amendments, rules and regulations established, adopted and published by the Minnesota Commission of Administration, through the Building Codes and Standards Division. Permits are required for work as authorized in the Minnesota Statute 16B.62 subdivision 1. The building code is enforced by a Minnesota Certified Building Official.
