Development

The City of Pine City and the Community Development Department are dedicated to promoting decent and affordable housing, marketing sites for redevelopment, cultivating business development and expansion, improving our aging housing stock, and attracting people to the Pine City area. We accomplish this through the preservation and development of the community in accordance with an established comprehensive plan.

Under the direction of the City Council and advisement of the Economic Development Authority (EDA), the Community Development Department is responsible for city planning, code enforcement, and community and economic development activities. These activities include collaborating with community organizations, connecting with members of the Pine City community to meet the needs of the residents and businesses, and creating beautiful, healthy neighborhoods.

Staff within this department:

The Community Development Director oversees the operations of the Community Development Department.  He also serves as the City's zoning code administrator, facilitates planning activities of the City, provides assistance and guidance to those interested in development within the City, is staff liaison to the Planning Commission, and carries out projects for the Economic Development Authority and Housing Redevelopment Authority.

The Building Official reviews and processes building permit applications, performs on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction, and ensures that all construction activity is in compliance with state and city building and fire codes.

The Safety Inspector assists with fire code compliance inspections, education on fire prevention, issuing burning permits, administering the City's rental inspection/registration program, and assists the City with code compliance and code enforcement issues. The Safety Inspector also assists the Community Development Director with zoning permit applications and the Building Official with residential maintenance inspections.
