Election Judges

Election judges are responsible for administering election procedures in each polling place on Election Day. Serving as an election judge is a great opportunity to be involved in the election process and serve the community.

Requirements

 

  • You must be at least 18 years of age and a Minnesota resident for at least 20 days prior to the election, and be a citizen of the United States
  • You should also be able to provide identification to prove your identity
  • You must be affiliated with a major political party
  • You may take time off from your regular job without penalty other than the reduction in wages for the time you are absent from your place of employment while serving as an election judge
  • A person selected to serve as an election judge must give twenty days written notice prior to the election to his/her employer.
  • You cannot be the husband, wife, parent, child, brother, or sister of a candidate, or be related to another election judge serving in the same precinct
  • You cannot be a candidate for the election in which you are serving as a judge.
  • You cannot be a judge unless you can read, write, speak and understand the English language.

 

 

Time off work to serve

State law allows for time off work without loss of wages to serve as an election judge with 20 days prior written notice to the employer. See Minnesota Statute 204B.195

Training

Pine County provides mandatory training for all election judges that lasts approximately two hours. You will be paid for the training session.

Upcoming In-Person Election Judge Training – only need to attend one course:

                        July 20:      North Pine Government Center 9AM-11AM

                                          Pine County Courthouse 3PM-5PM

                        July 29:      Pine County Courthouse 9AM-11AM

                                          North Pine Government Center 3PM-5PM or 6:30-8:30pm

                        August 5:  Pine County Courthouse 9AM-11AM

*Election Judge Training can also be completed online starting July 1st, if you would like to participate in online training please email: elections@pinecountymn.gov
